Story behind this food blog

Welcome, to Twig and Berry Kitchen. The recipes you will find here are a compilation of all of the research I’ve done over the years reading endless cookbooks as well as being inspired by the places I’ve lived and the restaurants I’ve been to. While I’ve been cooking for years, I feel like my journey has just started as I recently began experimenting with my own recipes that you will find here. I will forever be influenced by the seasons and colors around me as well as the places I’ve lived throughout my life. From the southern comfort of Tennessee cooking, to big bold flavor that is Chicago and now the beautiful seasonal crops of Michigan, there isn’t a recipe I won’t try.

I currently reside in Michigan where my husband Chris owns a local brewery and I work as a web developer. You will find me most days in the taproom trying to pawn off my new recipes on him and our friends.

I was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio where I started cooking with my Swedish relatives during the summer at our cottage in New York. I distinctly remember hating on all foods Swedish and even referring to that side of the family as the “cheese people” when I was younger. Now, having grown a love for all foods, and most definitely cheese, I am thankful for the recipes and meals that were once created in that tiny Swedish kitchen and take those cooking skills with me as I explore more foods from different cultures, as well as cheese.

Make up a recipe. Photograph. Eat. Repeat.

What is your favorite food?

There are two things that will always be my go to cravings. Pizza and unhealthy salads. If I could only eat two things the rest of my life it would definitely be pineapple and pepperoni pizza with hot honey drizzled on top and the second would be unhealthy salads. When I say unhealthy, I am talking all the fixings. Bacon, parmesan, fried chicken, dates, and whatever else ruins the healthiness of a salad, all on top!

My Mission

This blog is an outlet for my creativity and to share some of the recipes with friends and family, I am hopeful that one day it will bring me to a place where I can create my own cookbook to share. That way, I can help those who want to cook with the foods they have around them and enjoy recipes influenced by all seasons.

While a cookbook is the ultimate goal, so is creating recipes that people will love and keep coming back here to see and make more of my creations. As a result, it is here where I will post all of my recipe experiments, both tasty and I am sure some fails along the way. But it is all simply to get to a place where I can grow in both my recipe creation and the photographing process.

Littered throughout this blog you will find some of my Home and Garden posts as I am new to both worlds in trying to make our house into a home. I may not be the best at organizing a house, or weeding a lush garden, but it will be fun to learn what works and what simply does not.

I know it might sound pretty cheesy, but at the end of the day when I hear from friends and family that they have tried my recipes, it really makes me the happiest. That is why I decided to put this out here, I want to hear from all of you. Your thoughts about these recipes and posts, what you would like to see and if you have a recipe you want me to add a spin to.

When I can make something that, in the end, will be something you love too, then I’ve accomplished what I set out to do. So, with that said, thank you for being here and checking out my space, it means a lot!
